This year's Mr. and Ms. Titan competition is expected to be like no other.
Contestants are expected to really compete in order to hold the title of Mr. or Ms. Titan. No need to worry if you're athletically challenged. (In past years, some contestants had to shoot a three-pointer to win.)
This time around, all you need is a competitive school spirit and the time to participate in this week's "Winter Wonderland" events.
Each contestant will have to complete a small task - anything from singing at karaoke night to winning the most chips during casino night.
Each person will receive anywhere from 10 to 30 points for every event toward the 120-point goal.
The winner will be announced during halftime of Saturday's homecoming game and will receive a $250 Visa gift card.
"We want to encourage students to be involved," explained Aleczander M. Whitfield, advisor to the Student Programming Board. "Sometimes students have the tendency to be apathetic to school events if they are not asked to be involved."
There are eight contestants currently competing.
Alvin Franklin Jr. is one of two males competing this year. "It's a good title to represent me," he said.
Franklin has been a UDM student for five years staying away from the spotlight. "I just like to sit back and chill, so I feel that this is another challenge for me."
Whitfield does not expect this year's competition to take off with a bang. But he believes that if the programming board brings the same formula for next year's homecoming, it will be a huge success with a lot of participation.
The deadline for the Mr. and Ms Titan has officially passed. However, Whitfield said he will still accept applications from persistent candidates today, Wednesday.
