Students and staff who would like to participate should meet around the fountain to get their flowers, gear and instructions.
Alysa Ouellette, business operations coordinator at UDM, who is helping to organize the event, said that Volunteer Flower Day is a chance for UDM employees and students to join together to beautify the campus and enjoy the outdoors by planting flowers.
A wide variety of flowers, such as marigolds, geraniums, petunias, impatiens and begonias, will be available.
Bernie Olsen, facility maintenance supervisor, will be helping to direct students during the event.
"All day our grounds crew will be working with volunteers in their designated zones," said Ouellette. "Volunteers are welcome to bring their own gardening tools, but Facility Operations will be providing gloves, shovels, and other gardening gear for people to use during the event."
At noon everyone will break for lunch provided by the school. An email will be sent out around April 20 as a reminder, and students will be asked to respond if interested so enough food can be provided. This is the fourth year UDM has put on this event. However, this is the first time it will be open to students.
"On the event day we understand that the semester has already ended, but we're hoping individuals, teams, groups, sororities and fraternities will take advantage of giving back together with employees," said Ouellette.
