Architecture students create materials library

So members of in the UDM branch of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) have been developing a materials library - a collection of business and manufacturer catalogs, samples and building information that they can use to study and examine while they create their projects.
The library will allow students to find various supplies and then research them on a website so that they can learn more information before they decide what will work best for their projects.
The materials for the library have been donated by several companies, allowing students to use the supplies in school and to gain knowledge that will help them in their careers.
The actual library is not entirely built, but AIAS members plan to have it running by the end of this semester.
Dima Daimi, AIAS chapter president, said that it has been a work in progress and that she is excited that group is getting close to officially opening the library.
Daimi, Prof. Dan Pitera, Dean Stephen Vogel and other AIAS members have been working on the library since winter 2007. They want to provide a library that will benefit all students, and they got ideas from several architecture schools and firms.
"I was really happy to see many students and faculty involved. I really love that UDM motivates students to create great things on campus, and I'm definitely glad to be a part of it," said Daimi.
Many other architecture students have been involved, too, donating time and money to help.
Andrew Laszczyk has worked on the library since freshman year, and Veronica Allen and Tony Anni are the construction directors.
The library will be located on the first floor of the architecture building, across from the main office, in what used to be a conference room.
"We were looking for a large space to put the library and decided to put it in a conference room that was under-utilized by students and faculty in the building," said Daimi.
