Ethics Bowl seeks teams

Teams are being sought for UDM's 10th annual Ethics Bowl.
The bowl is modeled after TV's College Bowl with the rules modified to deal with ethical issues.
A team of three to five students must answer a question dealing with an ethical issue posed by the moderator.
"At the moment we have six teams but we have had as many as 18 in the past," said Prof. David Koukal.
The issues range from classroom topics and personal relationships to professional ethics and social or political ethics.
Each team will be given a set of ethical issues in advance of the competition, allowing students to prepare. Questions will be drawn from those issues.
Each team will be scored by a panel of judges consisting of faculty, staff and alumni.
Students in any major can take part in the bowl and do not need prior knowledge of ethical theories to participate.
"It's a successful campus event that gets people from all over campus," said Koukal.
Many students find the Ethics Bowl to be a good experience and return to take part in it again.
The winner of the Ethics Bowl will have the opportunity to compete in the National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl.
Students have until Oct. 30 to enter a team.
To take part in Ethics Bowl 2009, form a team of students, download the rules and procedures, fill out the Ethics Bowl registration form, slide the completed form under the door of Briggs 336 and have your team attend an informational meeting (the time and location will be emailed to your group).
The Ethics Bowl will take place on Nov. 6.
