Men's soccer

coach resigns mid-season

Morris Lupenec, head coach of the Detroit Titans men's soccer team, stepped down midway through his 18th season on the sidelines Monday afternoon.

"This was a difficult decision for me to make but, for personal reasons, I'm stepping down today," he said. "There's never a good time to make a choice like this, but I believe this is in the best interests of my family, Titan Athletics and our men's soccer program.

"My 18 years as head coach have been an experience I will always remember. I wish only the best for the program moving forward," he continued.

Assistant coach Nick Deren has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season as a national search for Lupenec's replacement takes place.

Deren has been with the team for six years, and played for the Titans in 1997 and 1999.

Women's lacrosse goes

2-2 in exhibition play

The women's lacrosse team traveled to New York over the weekend to play a four-game tournament at St. Bonaventure with each game lasting 30 minutes.

Behind six goals from sophomore Anna Eidem, the Titans ended the day at 2-2, with wins over St. Francis and Bucknell.

"It was good to play other teams on a full field together for the first time today," said Detroit head coach Mary Ann Meltzer. "Overall, I am happy with how the team played and now we will gear up for Northwestern."

UDM will play the five-time defending national champion team Thursday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m.

First-ever match at Titan tennis complex cancelled

The men's tennis match against Wayne State University has been cancelled, according to the UDM athletic department.

The decision was mutually agreed upon by both head coaches.

UDM will now prepare to head to Ann Arbor for the ITA Regionals next week.
