Rebecca Pidgeon led the Titans with her first two career goals to help snap the team's six-game losing streak.
Detroit had not recorded a single goal in over five games, but set the tone early against the Penguins when sophomore Alexendra Suschak found the back of the net at the 27:11 mark.
Less than four minutes later, the Penguins scored their only goal off of a rebound by a Titan defender to tie the game.
The Titans, who had been outscored 10-1 in the second half prior to Sunday's game, outshot the Penguins 14-2 and scored twice in the final 45 minutes.
For head coach Mike Lupenec, the team's second half effort was pleasing.
"We've been working hard all year on our fitness and I think we were able to wear them down a little bit in the second half," he said.
Pidgeon's first goal came from one of the Titans' four corner kicks. Suschak directed the ball toward the goal, and Pidgeon headed it into the net.
Her second goal, which cemented the win, came on an unassisted play with less than nine minutes remaining.
"It was great to come out and score a couple of goals today," said Pidgeon. "There's been a lot of frustration lately because we haven't been able to score and we've been losing games we shouldn't. Hopefully, we can get a streak going with this win and keep winning."
The Titans recorded a season high 20 shots on goal, while limiting the Penguins to just six.
Sophomore goalie Joanna Hinde recorded three saves, including an impressive stop on a Penguin breakaway that kept the score tied early in the second half.
UDM will look to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when facing the Butler Bulldogs Friday, Oct. 9.
