When did Detroit become a city?

Don't feel bad if you can't answer the question. Most people cannot, based on an informal survey of the UDM community. Detroit was founded in 1701 and was incorporated as a city in 1815.

But most of us can answer the kind of subjective questions that dominate conversations during lunch in the Titan Dinning Room.

The Varsity News recently sought to find out how witty and wise the people of the UDM community are by posing a series of questions to a random group of students and staff.

Here are some of their responses:

What is love?

Tyler Timmreck: "A feeling of attachment, familiarity and attraction towards another person."

Jodi Abatemarco: "Passion, obsession and something you can't live without."

Ben Montgomery: "A very strong emotion that can get you into worlds of trouble."

Rob Decost: "A mutual caring and concern for another more than yourself."

Andrew Diefenbach: "Unexplainable mutual feelings between two people that transcend physical worlds."

Malcolm Hudson: "The ability to see past faults and comprehend one another."

Mauricio Pérez: "Something you don't really achieve. Everyone has mixed ideas. You don't really find true love, it's unlikely."

Jordan Jerore: "A feeling - not an object. It's what mostly everyone lives for."

What is the best part of each day?

Timmreck: "Right after your accomplishment; when you get everything done."

Abatemarco: Waking up.

Montgomery: Dinner.

Decost: "The night time."

Diefenbach: "Finally understanding a concept you've been working on for a week."

Hudson: "Food."

Pérez: "Waking up; a new day to look forward to."

Jerore: "Waking up and having the gift of another day."

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Timmreck: "The chicken, it had to make the egg."

Abatemarco: "Neither."
