Behind dominant post play, the Detroit Titans rolled to a 92-51 victory over Ohio Dominican University Friday night at Calihan Hall. Sophomore Eli Holman led the Titans with 24 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, showing flashes of the talent that made him a top-100 recruit out of high school.

"Really, he's not a proven scorer," said second-year head coach Ray McCallum. "His strength is rebounding and I think with the scoring, he's just growing into that. He showed great potential (tonight) to be a big scorer for us because he has great hands."

The Titans out-rebounded the Panthers 56-41, using the size and quickness of Holman and senior Thomas Kennedy, who finished with 11 rebounds, to earn multiple offensive opportunities that led to easy baskets.

Kennedy scored 13 points and, according to McCallum, had offensive success because of his ability to finish close to the rim. The rest of the team followed suit, finishing with 48 points in the paint.

McCallum said that he hasn't decided on a starting rotation, and got an extended look at some of the new players on the team with seniors Eugene Blue (broken hand) and Woody Payne (one-game suspension) unable to play.

Junior transfer Lamar Lee started in place of Payne, and finished with four points and three rebounds in 24 minutes. Freshman John Hoskins also made a good impression in his first court action, scoring four points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

"Eugene Blue broke his hand, so that puts John in position to be our first post (off the bench)," McCallum said. "He took advantage of the minutes tonight, which is really nice to see."

Junior transfer Curtis Eatmon was the first guard off the bench, along with sophomore Donovan Foster, and both instantly made an impact, stretching the lead from six to 11 points in less than a minute.

Eatmon scored a layup off of an alley-oop pass from Foster, then stole the ball during the next Panther possession. He drove to the basket and was fouled as he made the shot, earning himself a three-point play after he made the free throw.

Eatmon finished with 13 points and three assists before going down with an injury with less than 10 minutes to play.
